What the extension does with your text
The ScanForAI browser extension is a thin client: it holds no detection logic and sends nothing anywhere until you ask it to scan or clean up a piece of text.
What is sent, and when
- Only on your action. Text goes to
api.scanforai.comonly when you press Scan/Clean up or use the right-click menu on a selection. The extension never reads pages in the background and has no access to your browsing. - Only the text you chose. No URLs, no page contents beyond your selection, no identifiers beyond what any HTTPS request carries.
What is stored
- On our servers: nothing, for anonymous use. Anonymous scans and clean-ups are processed and discarded — the same promise as the website.
- In your browser: your optional API key, kept in local extension storage only, never synced, removable any time in the extension settings.
- If you use your own API key, scans follow your account's settings — saved to your private history only if your account saves them.
What it never does
- No analytics, no tracking, no ads — the extension contains no telemetry of any kind.
- No selling or sharing of data. Your text is used to produce your result, nothing else.
- No remote code. Everything that runs ships inside the extension package.
